| Does anyone who really likes figuring out LJ layouts know how to add a tag cloud and a list of links to something as basic as my current layout? I don't want fancy, I just want to be able to click quick and find things.
Alternately, does anyone know a layout that's really really readable which does have tags and links?
Or even where I should be asking the question?
|
| I did. It doesn't appear to have been updated at all, so I'm not quite clear WHY I got it, but I did. | |
|
| I'm going to try posting and then adding a line or two at a time. Something doesn't like me much at the moment. Can't remember if I posted about this before, but I got reminded of it during the great Internet Isn't In Interval. A while ago, I was reading ozarques journal and she was mentioning the fact that people who aren't sight oriented use language differently. A sight-oriented person might "see the differences" between two things while a touch oriented person might "feel the gap" between the same things. | |

| http://news.livejournal.com/99159.htmlI'm waiting to see if the actions match the words before I do anything myself in response. And "free speech" is staying in my interests, regardless, just as a reminder to the LJ folks that it's one of the values I hold most dear. For those of you whose indignation remains high and are migrating away regardless, fanthropology pointed out a nice wiki called the Directorium which is meant for people to be able to guide other fans to their pages, even if they have to switch servers or something apparently. Haven't played with it yet, so I don't know how well it works, but at least it exists. (And it's still kind of neat to see how fast the numbers have gone up for fandom_counts... 24,000 members in less than 24 hours! I'd kind of still like to see folks add to that comm, just out of sheer "HEY, lookie us!" curiosity.) (please feel free to link or pass this along, by the way.) | |
|
| I'm torn. I don't want to raise a huge messy fuss, but at the same time, I feel as if there's a problem I want Six Apart/LJ to be aware of. By acceding to the demands of an outside group and starting to ban journals and comms based on interests, without any consideration of content, they may think that they're walking carefully along the wall, but actually they've started to slip down the slide. If any interest might indicate the possibility of a potential crime... say "music" leading to the idea that someone might share an mp3 without permission ... then pretty soon the whole idea of using "interests" to attract or find people with similar tastes becomes too dangerous to contemplate. So, like several of the folks on my flist, I've decided to cut all my interests down to one. I would have picked "creativity" but the ether appears to have chosen "free speech" instead, so I'm going with that. And until the fourth of July, that's all that will be there. I figure if enough people change their interests down to just "free speech" it ought to make an impact. ETA: Let me be clear here! I think that SA/LJ has made the searchable function of "interests" into something that impedes users, rather than helps them, and the only sensible reaction is to opt out of using the function until it becomes unusable. Like a nickel tip, retaining one interest indicates that I know darn well what I'm doing, thank you.ETA: I've found a link (with permission from the poster) which has the legal boilerplate that makes the mention of illegal activities in interests a deletable offense here. Again, all this really makes me want to do is make sure I don't have any interests. ( Read more... ) | |

| I just changed my settings so that anonymous comments have to be screened. This is so I can delete the ones which have links to porn sites, organ enhancers, and other annoyances before they end up boosting some idjits google ranking.
If you haven't got your journal set up so that you get e-mail notification when someone comments, you may want to enable it again. None of these spam-comments have hit recent entries, they're all "commenting" on things at least a month old. Without the e-mail notifications, I wouldn't even know I was being annoyed.
|
| Hmm. Everyone's been making noises about the new update screen, so I thought I should take a look. Seems reasonable enough. Incredibly wide on my home computer, which has one of those broad screens... I kind of like the way it lets me easily switch to any of the communities where I have posting privileges (not that I often do.) It's a nice spare sort of screen, which suits me at the moment.
I've been watching all of the Christmas Stockings going up, but I haven't been able to think of anything clever to put in them, so I hereby make a distribution of fresh batteries. Always useful this time of year, right?
Fic wise, I've got some New Avengers stuff bubbling, but unfinished. Can't face anything else, even though I've tried.
Work wise I'm swamped. I bought way too many books this summer, and they're all coming now. Normally books are a good thing, but I've run out of shelf space and I haven't gotten out to get the classes in to borrow the darn things, so I'm having to weed. I HATE weeding. I've spent too many years of my life trying to find a book that nobody has in their libraries any more.
Oh, well.
Happy whichever Holiday y'all celebrate. Heaven only knows when I'll get off my duff and post again.

| Yo, matey, have a gander at the little icon that you click to get to your profile!
AAAARRRRRRR! | |
|
| Yowch... Actually, I figured it out. (There's a message in LJ news.) And just in time to say, "no, I don't want that, thank you". Gah... Not a bad idea, maybe, but the font size that can be read across the room with no glasses didn't thrill me. The "you have to choose for life by the fourteenth" is pretty sucky, but I expect it won't last forever. | |
|
| When you look at my entries, are you seeing ads? I am at some people's journals and not others... | |
|
| Reported bust_trull_evar to LJ abuse. Any of you sharing certain communities with me know why.
So much for pleasant dreams.

| Starting at the beginning of my lj and I got a little ways and then realized I was about to head into the territory where my entire life took a nosedive. It's just been two years since I lost my old apartment, old position, etc. etc. Still stings. I'll have to find the fanfic by working through the memories instead of reading the old entries one by one, or I'll end up in an even worse mood than the one I'm already in.
I do like the way that clicking a tag puts all the entries together though. That's kind of cool.
|
| Someone comment please, so I can tell if my e-mails are working again.
*thenkyew*
EDIT: Hooray! They are working! At least for "reply to this post"... we'll see about the rest when the occasion arises.
|
| Yup, I've joined the club. If you've asked me a question and I haven't replied, it's because I haven't got enough brain cells to remember where I've posted comments.
*sigh* | |
|
| Does anyone remember how to limit your friends list so you don't see the communities? Because with the communities I'm lookin' at skip 850...
ETA: SAVED, thanks Shirebound!
|
| the past several days and I've realized that I'm so far behind I'll never see daylight.
And I had a thought...
You see, some people put their fic behind LJ-cuts, some people put long fic behind lj-cuts and leave drabbles out in the open (that's me, unless it's rated higher than G), some people don't bother cutting anything, some people conscientiously put a header on every entry and then an lj-cut, and it is only on very rare occasions that I see an entry that gives me a sentence or two as a teaser before the lj-cut.
And I have to say, given how frazzled and headachy I've been of late, that it's the last instance (and the very short drabblish things in the open) that I'm most likely to read. (Or even register as fic...)
So... what makes you click on an lj-cut?
|
| to my last entry, but now they've disappeared. Is it just me, or are your LJ's doing strange things too? | |
|
| http://www.livejournal.com/users/kirbycrow/172202.htmlHaven't decided how I feel about this one. I am there, with one subscriber (who I can't identify because it's not public!) but at the same time, the posts are public... But it does mean that if I post a revision, it's not going to get updated there. I'm more than a little ticked off at the idea that someone else is trying to slap a copyright on my stuff, but as long as they're reproducing the entire entry, I'm not sure what all I can do. Hmmm. If you are the RSS subscriber, would you mind dropping in a comment? I'm inclined to ask these folks to delete anything from my lj, but I need to know how useful the service is to you. | |
