quest
Three drabbles and three longer stories, one I wrote for the original request, one as a pinch hit, and one I'd been writing and found it fit a request. I'll probably cross post them to this journal when I'm conscious though.

The Secret Santa Affair Man from UNCLE, rude
10 x 100 Lord Peter Wimsey
1918 Sherlock Holmes/Lord Peter crossover

Encounter with Saint George Lord Peter again
The Tiger Song Calvin and Hobbes
Useful Howl's Moving Castle, movieverse

Edited to direct links to save the yuletide server some strain...

I don't know when I'm going to manage to thank all the people who commented -- probably not till after I get back to Boston! -- but if you commented and you're reading this, believe me, I appreciated it!

Okay, Google's hosting a bunch of pictures from Life magazine -- but they've also got bunches of the Sidney Paget illustrations from Sherlock Holmes, and you can make the images really really big!

I'm not sure how I feel about Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes in the upcoming movie. But I am rapidly becoming adapted to the idea of Jude Law as Watson.

Oh, yes, indeed.

Definitely.

And to cap my day, metaquotes had great quote about the doctor and his friend. (The original post it links to is good too, it just isn't mostly about Sherlock Holmes Watson.)

Who me? A Watson fan? Whatever gave you that idea?

Mind you, I can do the simple multiplication in my head already, but I didn't know the squares trick, and now I'm thinking of spending the 25 bucks...

I don't even do math all that much except when I'm helping the children!

The National Film Board of Canada has put "A Chairy Tale" on the web!

http://www.nfb.ca/animation/objanim/en/filmmakers/Norman-McLaren/film.php?id=11192&idfilm=11152

Yayfun!

Oh, and bonus, Juke Bar is there too: http://www.nfb.ca/animation/objanim/en/films/film.php?sort=title&id=18042

(And "The Cat Came Back" further down the list... and now you are all frightened, aren't you?)

ETA: Just in case you aren't too frightened, none of these are very long films. Ten minutes, perhaps...

These are so pretty I want to be able to put them up on my wall and not just up on my computer...

(Why is the universal rule that you never have anything to say and then you spam the world?)

quest
One of the reasons I'm still on livejournal is because of crack_van. I've found so many good stories there I've lost track. They're taking a vacation for the next month, but in the mean time there are all the old entries to wander through, and piles of things in the memories.

http://community.livejournal.com/crack_van/2768122.html?style=mine is a great example (especially for the Harry Potter fans among you.) If you follow the link, don't forget to check out the sequels too.

ETA Somehow the link changed. Try this one: http://community.livejournal.com/crack_van/2772990.html?mode=reply

Gacked from [info]aragorn_reader

Whether you have ever played D&D or not, if you like Lord of the Rings you have got to check out this! *snicker*

(Warning... put the coffee down.)

And edited to add (because I'm awake now...) [info]belegcuthalion has completed The Keeper of the Jewels! And it's quite wonderful, really. I just reread the whole thing from the beginning. *sigh* It's nice to fall into a story like that.

Little essay on why we don't need reading. Get into the comments and you can see that the bobo responsible thinks he's writing satire, but he's failed to realize that his arguments are likely to be used otherwise.

today is the last day of the diet... the last day I go without any kind of thyroid supplement... I slept nearly twelve hours last night, and I've already napped once and the hours stretch before me like... like... hours and hours and hours...

Spam me! I need things to do which require very few braincells, but kill a lot of time.

ETA: It seems fairly simple, but it's down at the moment. Looks like everyone found out about it at once! I'll try again in the middle of the night.

So "thyroiditis" is word number 86615 out of 86800 over at http://www.wordcount.org/main.php

But then again, a lot of words I use fairly often are near the tail. "pugnaciously" for one, and "antihistamine".

And "Conquistador" is right at the very end, but then again they're using a UK database --

Very interesting.
